Student Affairs and Alumni of UPM: Continuing to Empower Students and Uphold Alumni

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has always emphasized not only academic excellence but also character development and continuous engagement with alumni. This is where the role of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) becomes crucial, serving as a catalyst for well-rounded students and alumni who continue to contribute to the community.

The main objective of establishing the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) is to empower students through holistic student development programs. Through various initiatives in welfare, co-curriculum, talent development, leadership, and character building, HEPA aims to produce graduates who are not only academically excellent but also strong in spiritual, social, and mental values.

In addition, HEPA provides support for employability and entrepreneurship through initiatives such as soft skills development, practical training, entrepreneurial opportunities, and industry networking to ensure UPM graduates are prepared to face the challenges of the workforce.

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (HEPA) also supports academic and welfare matters by providing services such as counseling, financial assistance, scholarships/sponsorships, sports, and residential college facilities to ensure students’ basic needs are met, enabling them to focus on learning and personal growth.

Alumni Engagement Programs are also strengthened to foster close relationships with UPM alumni so that they remain as active alma mater representatives, whether by giving back through mentorship, guiding new students, contributing to university development, or expanding professional networks.

In conclusion, the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (HEPA) plays a critical role in ensuring that UPM students are shaped not only as intelligent learners but also as competitive, well-rounded, and socially engaged individuals. Alumni, on the other hand, are not merely former graduates but serve as a bridge between the university and the wider community — a source of inspiration and support for new students. With the combined efforts of the university, students, and alumni, UPM can continue to advance as a leading educational institution.
